Crime prevention week across Rochdale Borough

Date published: 11 June 2011

A series of crime prevention events is taking place across Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton next week.

Organised by police and other agencies, the events form part of the Secure Summer campaign, whose main aims are to reduce the number of burglaries, vehicle crimes, metal thefts and robberies in the borough and to bring offenders to justice.

A range of tactics have been employed by police so far including high-profile patrols in crime hot spots and frequent visits to offenders’ homes.

Arrest warrants have also been carried out and police have used automatic number plate recognition equipment to target criminals.

In addition, frequent checks have been made on second-hand shops, scrap yards and ‘cash for gold’ outlets to help prevent dealing in stolen goods.

Chief Inspector Nadeem Mir of Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale Division said: “I would encourage people to come down and visit the venues listed below, as our officers will be happy to answer any questions or offer advice on crime prevention.

“I would also like to thank the other agencies who have helped to organise the week’s activities, and I hope that by engaging with the public in this way we can give them the information they need to reduce their chances of being targeted by criminals.”
