Date published: 10 June 2011

Greater Manchester Police is asking people to be aware that three major events are taking place across the city this weekend.

Officers are advising those coming to Greater Manchester to allow extra time for their journeys and stay safe during this busy time.

Lancashire play West Yorkshire in the twenty20 cricket game at Old Trafford on Friday 10 June 2011, Take That continue their run of performances at the City Of Manchester Stadium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and music event Parklife Weekender takes place at Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield on Saturday and Sunday.

Chief Inspector Wasim Chaudhry said: "People coming to Greater Manchester should build in extra time to their journey because there will be a lot of extra people in the area and traffic on the roads.

"I'd urge visitors to the city to park their cars in well-lit parking areas and car parks and not leave valuable items on display and stay aware of their surroundings, keeping themselves and their belongings safe.

"We want people to have a good time but we'd ask people to drink responsibility because officers will deal promptly with those intent on causing trouble."
