Appeal to parents in Norden
Date published: 09 June 2011
The condition a football pitch in Norden was left in recently by youths.
Parents of young people in Norden are being asked to help reduce antisocial behaviour.
Groups of youths are congregating at Norden community playing fields and in the village itself on Friday and Saturday evenings where they are drinking alcohol and causing a nuisance to residents.
To combat this, the police and Rochdale Borough Council are reminding parents to be mindful of where their children are and not to give them too much money, as it is often spent on alcohol which fuels antisocial behaviour.
Inspector Umer Khan of the Rochdale North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Sometimes these problems are caused, at least in part, by lack of parental responsibility, and we just want to remind parents that the money they give their children is often spent on alcohol.
“They also ought to have some idea of where their children are going and what they are planning on doing.
“As well as frequent patrols in hotspot areas, officers will seize illegally purchased alcohol, work with the council’s Trading Standards to target licensed premises selling alcohol to under 18s and take action against adults who buy drink for young people.”
