Give someone you know their moment to shine
Date published: 08 June 2011
Do you know someone who is truly inspirational? Someone who always strives to do their best? This is your chance to give them their moment to shine.
With one year to go until the Olympic Flame arrives in the UK, London 2012 has launched the search for 8,000 Torchbearers to take part in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.
The Torch Relay will start on 19 May next year and go through to 27 July 2012
London 2012 local co-ordinator for the Rochdale Borough is Link4Life Marketing Manager, Barbara Lloyd.
Ms Lloyd said: “London 2012 organisers are emphasising that it is not just sports people who can be nominated – they are looking for people from all interests and in every community; people who inspire and who have made a special contribution. That could be a work place, school, group, club or even family. Around half of the 8,000 Torchbearers are likely to be young people between the ages of 12 and 25.
“The process is quite simple. They are just looking for up to 150 words on why you think your chosen person deserves to be a Torchbearer, contact details for yourself and the person nominated plus signed consent if they are under 18. You are also asked to ensure that the person is happy to be nominated. Probably the best place to get internet access if you haven’t got it at home is your local library where it is free.”
