Pupils selected in National Athletic Championships - Congratulations to Brandon S, Tommy H and Debra C who have been selected to represent the North West in the National Athletics Championships at Preston in July. Everybody at Redwood School is extremely proud of this achievement and we will support them and their families in this special event.

Sports Review of the Year at Redwood School - A reminder that that on Thursday 7 July, 6.30pm at the Gracie Fields Theatre we shall be hosting our ‘Sports Review of the Year’ awards evening at which many of our students will be recognised for their achievements and a review of the many activities that have taken place will be shown.

Tell it like it is – Being Honest about growing up - A course for all parents of children of all ages. Come along and meet a friendly group learning to support their young people growing up. Parents/ Carers/ Grandparents all welcome— each Friday at 9.45am. here at Redwood.

Key stage 4 news - 4A went to Hollingworth Lake; they had a walk round and had some fish and chips. They also had a trip to Bury market. The Bishop of Middleton, Bishop Mark and Reverend Sharon Jones visited School. They met most of the students and seemed to enjoy their visit. 4K went to look around the Connexions office, the Connexions team work closely with our young people so it was nice for them to see where they work. Key Stage 4 pupils organised a breakfast with a theme around America. The students worked hard with the organisation on the morning working hard on producing a quiz and pictures for competitions.

Key Stage 3 News— Mrs Walsh has settled into her new class and was very busy during the first half term studying Japan as part of Geography, the class has tasted rice cakes and enjoyed playing drums with Mr Jackson. Year 7 Green enjoyed a session with Steve the artist who helped them to draw landscapes. Year 8/9 Orange visited a garden centre and farm shop, where they looked at the fish. The Lilac room enjoyed a medieval banquet in the themed room to celebrate the end of the Myths and Legends topic. Year 8/9 Purple Spanish group made Tostada con Tomate whilst Year 8/9 Red made musical instruments, later in the week 8/9 Red also visited Clitheroe Castle as part of Myths and Legends.

Sixth Form travelled back in time and experienced life on the home front in the 1940’s. Staff and students took part in various activities such as cooking, dancing, learning about rationing and visiting bunkers and air raid shelters. A group made home-made comfrey concoctions, using lavender and lanolin to make lavender balm and planting herbs. The Make Do and Mend group recycled old pieces of bedding to make lovely new bags. The group used fabric paints and learnt to hand stitch. Another group learnt how people lived through the rationing years and tried making some war time recipes whilst listening to music by legends such as Vera Lynn and Gracie Fields. Some students visited Bygone Days in Eccleston, near Chorley to take part in interactive activities from the WW2 era. The whole of 6th form enjoyed ration food for lunch with Carol cooking nothing but recipes from the 1940’s. Dishes included meals such as lettuce, potato and parsley soup, potato hash and Woolton Pie.
