Rochdale Exchange Charity Ball 2011
Date published: 04 June 2011
Men and women from the borough and beyond dressed to impress for a fabulous Vegas themed charity ball at the Rochdale Town Hall on Saturday night (4 June).
The ball, hosted by the Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre, was held to raise money for the centre’s chosen charity for 2011, The Christie.
Guests were greeted by showgirls and enjoyed a drinks reception before heading up the stairs to the Great Hall where they played on the charity gaming tables.
They were then served a four course meal before enjoying evening entertainment, dancing and bidding in a charity auction.
The shopping centre has been raising money throughout the year for The Christie, manager Lorenzo O’Reilly explained why: “It is a well known and well established North West cancer charity which undertakes fabulous work.
“It appeals to everyone, we were looking for great appeal and it is such a well known charity.”
Mr O’Reilly added: “This year we have done something different, a different theme, a gaming theme and show girls – I think it will be fun.”
“Tonight is about raising as much money as absolutely possible and we hope to achieve that.”
Amongst the guests were the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale. The Mayor, Councillor Alan Godson, said: “I did this event last year as Deputy Mayor and it was really good so I am looking forward to it. They do some good work and raise a lot of money.”
Christine Mathewson from The Christie added: “It is fantastic that the Rochdale Exchange have dedicated the Christie as their chosen charity for 2011.
“The annual turnover of The Christie is £173million and £13million of that comes from charity donations and they pay an integral part.
“Events like this are needed for the hospital to keep going.”
