Dog lovers put their best paw forward for hospice
Date published: 04 June 2011
Forty fundraisers and their dogs took part in a sponsored walk today (4 June) to raise money for the Springhill Hospice.
‘Woofs and Wellies’ is a new event in the hospice’s fundraising calendar and organisers and hoping it will become an annual attraction.
The walk attracted a variety of people of all ages all wanting to raise money for the hospice and all with their own reasons for doing so.
The dogs ranged from the big to the very small, from Yorkshire Terriers to Labradors – and some were even in fancy dress for the occasion.
The walkers set off from the hospice at 10.00am and walked for around three miles before returning to the hospice.
Each dog received a goody bag at the end and a medal. There was also a prize for the dog in the best fancy dress and raffle prize filled with dog treats.
Dean Connaughton, Fundraiser for Springhill Hospice, organised the event, he said: “I am delighted with the turn out and the weather. It is going to be an annual event and next year we hope it will be even bigger and better.”
Naomi Bowker who was taking part said: “I just wanted to raise money for the charity. So far I’ve raised £30 and I only decided to take part at short notice.”
Wendy Lane Vets of Rochdale and Littleborough sponsored the dog walk and also sourced all the goodies for the participants.
