Two charged following Middleton arrests

Two men have been charged with firearms offences and nine others bailed after an incident in Middleton.
John Haining, 22, of Eastern By Pass, Openshaw, and Douglas Ward, 22, of Darlington, County Durham, have been charged with possessing a firearm and ammunition in a public place.
Both men appeared at Rochdale Magistrates' Court on Friday (3 June 2011), where they were remanded in custody to reappear on 9 June 2011.
Nine other men, aged from 18 to 43, arrested on suspicion of firearms offences have been bailed to the end of September, pending further inquiries.
On Wednesday (1 June 2011), police were alerted to the potential disorder was due to take place in the Manchester area and at 1.30pm officers went to Bowness Road, Middleton, after reports a large group of men had gathered. Two firearms and ammunition were recovered.
