Student wins the golden prize

Ross Brierly, 17, has won a holiday to Spain thanks to the Rochdale Exchange’s ‘Gold Rush’ competition.

Five hundred gold bars were hidden in the shopping centre as part of a week long event that ended with one person winning a holiday of a life time.

Mr Brierly, from Shawforth, was on his lunch break from Hopwood Hall College when he spotted one of the golden bars, and was shocked with he was contacted via telephone by the competition organisers to tell him he was the winner. His mum thought it was a scam at first, and told him not to divulge any personal information. However, now the Brierly family are flying off to Spain, where they will spend a week in the sun.

Ross’s Mum described the holiday as a “godsend” because the family have not had a holiday together since 2004.

Margaret Cigna, Promotions Co-ordinator at the Rochdale Exchange said: “I am delighted for Ross.

“It’s so nice to know that the holiday will really be appreciated and enjoyed by Ross and his family.

“I hope they have a great time.”
