Man rescued by fire crews from house fire

Date published: 28 May 2011

Fire-fighters rescued a 30-year-old man from a house fire in Heywood in the early hours of this morning (Saturday 28 May).

At 1.37am fire-fighters from Heywood and Bury Fire Stations were called to a fire in an end terraced property on Pilsworth Road, Pilsworth, Heywood where it was reported that people were still inside.

On arriving at the scene six fire-fighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and quickly located and rescued a man from an upstairs bedroom.

Trauma technicians and paramedics administered oxygen and treated the casualty at the scene before he was rushed to hospital by ambulance.

Fire-fighters quickly tackled the fire in the ground floor lounge with 3 hose reel jets.

The property suffered extensive fire damage to the ground floor and heat and smoke damage to the remainder of the terraced house.

There was no evidence of a working smoke alarm in the property however, the cause into how the blaze started is currently subject of an investigation by specialist fire scene investigation officers.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service would offer the following safety message: Always ensure that you have at least one working smoke alarm in your property and make sure that you test that the batteries work every week.
