Fresh 'n’ Fruity

Date published: 27 May 2011

Tenants at an RBH Sheltered Housing Scheme in Milnrow put together some pretty impressive arrangements with the help of a local group.

The Milnrow-based Fresh n’ Fruity team, led by Fiona Hall who works as a Day Service Officer for Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council, took their trade to Fieldway Sheltered Housing Tenants.

The event proved so popular that there are now plans to deliver more workshops in June throughout the borough.

Tenants at the Fieldway scheme watched a demonstration by the group after which they had the opportunity to make their own hand tied fresh flower arrangement.

“The flowers have proved to be really popular, and we’ve received lots of enquiries from groups that want to book workshops with us,” said Fiona.

Meeting every Wednesday and Thursday, the ‘Fresh n Fruity’ group, who all have a learning disability, come together to plough their trade by growing flowers, fruits and vegetables at the allotments.

But it’s the flower arranging that has really taken the market by storm and they have so far delivered flower arranging workshops at RBH sheltered schemes in Heywood, Milnrow and Freehold.

The event at Fieldway was organised by Nasreen Akhtar and Cath Palin of the Rochdale Boroughwide Housing Customer Involvement team. It was funded by the RBH Communities First initiative.

Fresh n’ Fruity workshops will be taking place for tenants at the following RBH Sheltered Housing Schemes: -

Thistleyfield, Milnorow Wednesday 1 June
Arnold Bagnall Court, Balderstone Thursday 9 June
Saxon House, Littleborough Thursday 16 June
