‘Lock up’ warn officers after tools are stolen

Date published: 26 May 2011

Police in Rochdale are warning motorists to follow simple crime reduction advice after a spate of break-ins.

Thieves have stolen tools from 30 vans across the borough in the past three months.

To combat the problem, officers have increased both plain-clothed and uniformed patrols in the hotspot areas to catch and deter any thieves. Police are now asking the public for their support.

Crime Reduction Advisor Brian Farr, from the Rochdale Division of Greater Manchester Police, said: “Workers can greatly reduce their chances of being targeted by locking their vehicle when leaving it unattended, even if it is just for a short period of time.

“All tools and valuables should be removed when leaving the vehicle overnight and you should park on a driveway or in a garage if possible. Also remove copper and other equipment from the roofs of vehicles as they can be easily stolen. Installing an alarm will act as a further deterrent.”
