Beaver Scouts birthday bash at Ashworth Valley
Date published: 25 May 2011
Over 400 Beaver Scouts from Rochdale, Bury, Radcliffe and Bolton have descended on Ashworth Valley Scout Campsite on for an action-packed day of fun.
Greater Manchester North County Scouts organised the day to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Beaver Scouts, the youngest section in the UK Scout Association.
Boys and girls from the area enjoyed over 20 different activities, including bouldering, water rockets and circus skills, with displays from the fire service. They also tried some traditional Scouting activities, with backwoods cooking skills and a campfire.
Scout Leader, Nichola Johnson, said: “They’ve really enjoyed all the water activities.”
Brandon Wilson, age 7, said: “It’s been the greatest Beaver day ever.”
Despite only running for one day, the event took over twelve months to organise, with support from over 70 volunteers, including both adults and older Scouts.
County advisor for Beaver Scouts, Tim Allen, said: ‘What really made this day a success was the enthusiasm and sense of adventure from the young people.”
