Broadband win for sheltered housing
Date published: 24 May 2011
Yew Court and Thistley Field Sheltered Accommodation in Rochdale have been awarded one year’s free broadband from BT.
They are two of 15 groups across the North West who have won the prize as part of BT’s ‘Get IT together’ programme.
The aim is to give people a chance to get online and discover the benefits of the internet.
The judges, who included representatives from Race Online 2012, AbilityNet, UK Online Centres and Business in the Community, were impressed by the groups’ ideas of how they intend to assist people in getting online and training people to use the internet.
Donna Young, BT’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme director, said: “It is very important to BT that we are able to support those vital community and voluntary groups who are introducing people to the internet.
“We understand that it is increasingly important for people to have confidence in using technology to help enhance their lives. Our commitment reflects the enormous potential digital inclusion has to make a positive difference, not only to the lives of individuals but also to society as a whole.”
