The Bishop of Middleton, Rt Revd Mark Davies, visited Village Treasures in Milnrow today (24 May) to find out more about the work they do.
Village Treasures is a community shop, run as a charity, sponsored by the Friends of Milnrow Parish.
The shop gives the church a point of contact on the street but its aims are to maintain Milnrow Parish Church, to raise funds to benefit the community and help with other community projects
The shop, situated on Dale Street, opened about 18 months ago and is run by 26 volunteers from the Church and the village.
Shop manager, Geoff Cowling, described the shop as a “tremendous success”
He said the shop has had “excellent support” and the people of the village are “very generous.”
Rt Revd Davies said he though the shop was “awesome” he added: “It is bringing people together, it is a place for people to meet and there are some tremendous things on sale that are of great quality.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the Church to engage with the local community.
“I am full of admiration.”
Mr Cowling said the day showed “recognition for what Milnrow has achieved.”
