Redwood School
Parents/Carers: As you are aware the government recently published a Green Paper on ‘SEN and Disability’ which will have a direct influence on the educational and health care provision for many years ahead. I shall be responding to the proposals myself and I would encourage parents to also have your say. With this in mind we are working closely with the Rochdale Parents Forum to arrange a meeting. Provisionally this has been arranged for Thursday 23 June at the Youth Service building in Littleborough at 10.00am and then at 6.00pm.
Sports Review of the Year at Redwood School -Please note that on Thursday 7 July, 6.30pm at the Gracie Fields Theatre we shall be hosting our ‘Sports Review of the Year’ awards evening at which many of our students will be recognized for their achievements and a review of the many activities that have taken place will be shown. More details will be sent out in the next few weeks.
Post 16 Work Experience-Well done to all those students who have completed their work experience placements! We have heard some very positive comments. The staff of the 6th form are delighted with everything.
Tell it like it is– Being Honest about growing up -A course for all parents of children of all ages. Come along and meet a friendly group learning to support their young people growing up. Parents/ Carers/ Grandparents all welcome— each Friday at 9.45 am at Redwood.
Key stage 4 - Rochdale Rathbones group had a Hawaiian party to say goodbye to Dot the tutor. They had non alcoholic cocktails and crisps. They played Name that tune and Twister, at dinner time they had an oriental buffet. Dot will be missed by all staff and pupils who worked with her. Miss Greenhalgh’s maths group went to Cutgate shopping centre as part of their understanding how to use money work. 4E/R visited the Unitarian Church in Rochdale, they had a good look round and the pupils really enjoyed themselves. The following pupils were awarded the Head teachers role of honour this week: Jason, Adeel, Tommy D, Kenny, Fatima, Daniel K M, Reece, Steven B and the whole of 4B. Well done everyone
Youth Clubs -Redwood Youth clubs continue to go from strength to strength. They have been growing in numbers and run 3 nights per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) 6.00 –8.00 p.m. and Saturday mornings 10.00—12.00. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are now open for all key stages to attend. If you would like your son / daughter to attend please contact David Butterworth
Key Stage 3 News— Daniel, Robert and Aqsa had an opportunity to go horseriding, Yr7 red visited Clitheroe Castle, Yr7 green went to Lego land whilst the Lilac room went shopping in Tesco and then on a ‘Magical Mystery tour’ with Mr Smith—they visited an indoor fishing pond! As part of Mrs Walsh lesson on Japan Yr9 yellow listened to Mr Jacksons drumming. The Sensory room is in the process of another ‘make over’! Students of the week Jordan KS, Gary O, Aqsa.
6th form news –With work placements now completed. Marie English, the work experience HLTA said she was absolutely thrilled. Lynda Reddish, Independent Travel Facilitator said she was really proud of all the independent travellers who managed to remember their journeys and everyone travelled safely and on time.
Redwood closed for half term Friday 27 May and reopens on Monday 6 June – enjoy the break!
