Mountain rescue team needs your help

Date published: 23 May 2011

The Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team is calling on members of the public to help them raise over £500,000 for a new base to help them continue their life-saving work – by taking part in a sponsored walk dressed as a witch!

The Team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help those who have become stranded up a hill in the bad weather or had an accident whilst out walking.

They go anywhere from the wilds of the East Pennine moors to the paths and tracks of our country parks, from Bacup to Bury, Rishton to Rochdale, Clitheroe to Colne.

The team is so busy that they have outgrown their base and now need to raise money to relocate.

You could help them achieve their goal by joining them for the sponsored walk on Pendle Hill. They are hoping to get 1,000 people dressed as witches on top of the hill.

A spokesperson said: “All the proceeds will go to the new base appeal so the more people who take part the better.”

The event starts at 9.00am, 11 June in Barley Village at the foot of Pendle Hill and there's a prize for the best witches costume on the day.

To take part you can either download an entry form at: http://www.rpmrt.org.uk/userfiles/file/Pendle1000entryform_2.pdf
or ring Alwyn Hayes on 07957 758327 for more details.
