Fire-fighters awarded for 20 years service

Date published: 18 May 2011

Fire-fighters from the class off 1991 were reunited at a Long Service and Good Conduct Award ceremony at the fire service Training and Development Centre in Manchester.

The event brought the uniformed members from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and their families together with colleagues for a ceremony led by Deputy County Fire Officer Jim Owen, Chairman of the Fire Authority Councillor Paul Shannon and Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Warren Smith.

The Fire and Rescue Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal is awarded on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to everyone who has ‘rendered long and meritorious service’ as members of Fire Services across the UK.

Graham Shelmerdine from Rochdale was one of the recipients.

Chairman of Greater Manchester Fire Authority Councillor Paul Shannon said: “This is such a proud event for those who have served the fire service for 20 years, and their families.

“Collectively the recipients of the Long Service and Good Conduct Award, that was presented to them by Lord-Lieutenant Warren Smith on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, have more than 400 years service and experience between them; which they no doubt will share with the younger members of the Service.”
