Rail bosses waive fines issued at Castleton Station

Date published: 18 May 2011

Northern Rail has decided to waive fines recently issued to cars at Castleton train station.

Commuters were left angered after receiving parking fines at the station and have since contested the issue with the rail bosses.

Tickets were issued to cars for ‘causing an obstruction’ or not parking in marked bays. However, rail users said the signs warning commuters of the restrictions could not been seen in the area where the tickets were issued.

Northern Rail says that the parking has been reviewed and they will waive the tickets as a “gesture of goodwill.”

Further signs at the station will be installed to avoid any further confusion and customers are advised to adhere to the new restrictions to avoid facing fines in the future.

Lee Wasnidge, Area Director for Northern Rail: "We would like to inform readers of Rochdale Online that we have thoroughly reviewed the parking situation at Castleton station.

“As a gesture of goodwill, we will waive the fines for those issued tickets at Station Approach in recent weeks. Those who have already paid will be reimbursed and we have written to the customers involved.

“We manage 310 car parks across our network and pride ourselves on doing so in a professional manner to ensure we manage the space appropriately.

“On this occasion the enforcement highlighted that there was some ambiguity at the station and additional signage will be installed to ensure customers are aware of the current parking restrictions. We ask that they adhere to these in order to avoid receiving tickets in the future.

“We apologise for any confusion caused".
