Marie Curie Cancer Care - Blooming Great Tea Party

Date published: 17 May 2011

Over a hundred people attended a fabulous tea party to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care today (Tuesday 17 May).

The event, hosted by the Rochdale Support group for Marie Curie Cancer Care, was held in the Peacock Room at The Crimble where guests enjoyed a selection of sandwiches, scones, cakes and of course tea and coffee.

A variety of raffle prizes ranging from gift vouchers to boxes of chocolate were also on offer.

The afternoon was sponsored by The Crimble and all proceeds from the day will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care. The money raised will help fund Marie Curie nurses to provide free care for people with a terminal illness in their own homes.

The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali, attended on what is his last assignment in the borough before his term comes to an end. He said he thought the event was “great.”

He added: “It was very eye-opening when I walked through the door to see so many people here. It shows tremendous support – it’s not often to get big numbers like this during the day. Many thanks to the organisers, the caterers and those who have donated raffles prizes.”

Vivien Thompson, Chairwoman of the support group described the day as “absolutely wonderful.”

She said: “It is absolutely incredible. The atmosphere is great and people have done nothing but laugh, smile and chat since coming in.”

Ms Thompson added: “As soon as the tickets go on sale people are ringing us because they know it is such a good afternoon and the food provided is excellent.

“Staff here are already talking about next year. One suggestion from the chef is to try and do a recipe book for next year.”

Diane Page, The Crimble site secretary said: “This is the third year and it is just getting bigger and better.

“It is a fabulous day.”
