Redwood School
North West Regional Athletics - A team of 5 students represented Redwood School in the North West Regional Athletics at Sports City and did a fantastic job. The results were outstanding: U16 Tommy H and Brandon S, U18 Andrew F, Debra C and Daniel W.
Sports Review of the Year at Redwood School - Please note that on Thursday 7 July, 6.30pm at the Gracie Fields Theatre we shall be hosting our ‘Sports Review of the Year’ awards evening at which many of our students will be recognized for their achievements and a review of the many activities that have taken place will be shown. More details will be sent out in the next few weeks.
Independent Travel Programme for Students -A group of our leavers took part in a presentation to members of the Governors Pupil Curriculum committee and gave a fantastic overview of how they have worked through the programme and now travel independently to and from school. Glen, Louis and Tonya, supported by Lynda Reddish and Dawn Alletson our co-coordinators, gave an inspirational talk on their achievements. Well done.
In key stage 4 youth club we had some time on the muga playing with the football. Ben W decided he would rather sit down with Paul and have a chill out. The chocolate fountain will be coming out at youth club soon, along with marshmallows and strawberries to dunk in it. Pete Bowment came in to work alongside our pupils to help them develop their money management skills, they played games to look at money and how to manage it, the pupils really enjoyed themselves. 4A took a trip to Blackpool, they had a lovely walk on the beach and had a fish and chips lunch by the sea. The pupils and staff had a great time and are looking forward to their next trip to Blackpool. The Athletics season is firmly underway for Year 10 P.E students who practised improving their skills in a number of different Athletics Events. Students took part in a Redwood themed Pentathlon which included the 100m / 400m / Long Jump / Shot put and Javelin. All students participated with enthusiasm and a few Daley Thompson and Dean Macey Performances were recognised. Sam E performed incredibly well in the 100m and is looking forward to challenging athletes in London 2012. On Monday the Bridging year held a coffee morning for outside agencies and parents/carers to come along, they had a great time and all worked very hard to make the morning a success. 4E/R baked some fairy cakes and had lots of fun making these.
Key Stage 3 News—taking advantage of the fine weather, Year 7 green walked around the grounds looking at trees, flowers and colours in preparation for the new topic– Landscapes. The music man has visited working with the students using lots of different instruments. Trips out have included a visit to Bridgewater Hall to listen to live music, shopping to practice money skills as part of Maths and Tesco to buy resources for the tuckshop and Newlands visited in preparation for September.
Sixth form - due to many students being out on work experience interviews, we had a slight change in timetable. In sports students took part in rebound therapy and had a fantastic time. The travel and tourism group who have now completed their accreditation had a treat, they visited travel agencies in Spindles Shopping Centre to look at special deals on summer holidays and stopped for a drink in MacDonald's. In Dance students have already started studying the 1940’s dance styles all ready for our War Week that will be taking place from 23 May. Students have been practicing the Jive and the Charleston Stroll with Lynda and Saj. They worked really hard.
