Business owners, staff and political figures from Rochdale attended the spectacular Greek themed Town Centre Business Awards on Friday evening (13 May) at the Broadfield Hotel.

The awards night, now in its fourth year, was a culmination of weeks of voting by members of the public to pick the best businesses in a range of categories.

Ten prestigious awards were presented to the following winners:

Noticeable winners were The Baum, scooping three of the ten awards.

Heidi Crompton who runs the town centre pub with her husband, Simon, said: “I am absolutely mega chuffed. Over the last 12 months we have changed things a bit. I have got more involved and I am developing the HR side of things we are doing training and putting people through their qualifications and it has made a difference.”

Mr Crompton added: “I am very happy; we have worked hard over the last year.

“It really is down to Heidi, the amount of work she has put in has been superb.”

25 Ten Boutique walked away with two awards, Kelly Turner-Mitchell from the shop said: “We really do work around the clock to not only promote us but to promote Rochdale as well and we have finally got the credit I feel we deserve.”

Guy Sedgwick from Cartridge World said he was “shocked” to have won Best National Retailer.

He said: “It is great – it is a bit of shock considering we were up against the big names, we are only a franchise, it shows that the hard work is paying off.”

Donna Elcock, from Ladies Only Gym, the winners of Best Service Provider, said: “I feel fantastic. We have entered every year and never won – thank you to all our members who voted for us.”

Employee of the Year winner, Alvyda Kosyte, said: “I am speechless. I love my job; I love the people, the food and the service.”

Stuart Hallworth, the manager of Pacific, was delighted with his win, he simply said: “I am amazed.”

The winners of the award for Best Eating Place, Madisons, were not in attendance.

The organiser of the event, Suzy Woods, from Rochdale Town Centre Management, said she was “really happy” with the awards evening.

She said: “It has always been a really successful event and this year we have had an increased turn out. There has been a really positive atmosphere and it has been a happy night.”

The Leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Colin Lambert, said: “This type of event promotes the positive things about Rochdale. The negativity has got to end; we have got a lot to be positive about.

“People say they love Rochdale, we have got to give them something to love and tonight is an example of that.”

Ten licensed premises also received official Best Bar None accreditation. They were: The Baum, Bojangles (formerly Kandi Club), East, Edwin Waugh, KoKo lounge, The Litten Tree, Mango, Pacific, The Regal Moon and the Roebuck.
