A former Member of the UK Youth Parliament for Rochdale has been selected as one of 30 Faiths Act Fellows for the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.
Usman Nawaz, 21, is a final year law student at the University of Hull.
In 2007 he was elected to serve a two-year term as Member of UK Youth Parliament and Chair of the Rochdale Youth Council.
Mr Nawaz has also been a member of the Young Muslims Advisory Group which was established by the Government in 2008.
Mr Nawaz along with the other fellows will be tasked with building understanding between different religious communities by mobilising them around the common cause of eradicating deaths from malaria.
He said: “It is a tremendous honour and privilege to be part of the Faiths Act Fellowship for the Tony Blair Faith Foundation and to work on projects which will save lives and improve interfaith co-operation.
“As a young Muslim, I see both of these tasks as a 'religious calling', and so I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with fellows from the UK, USA, Canada and India to make a real positive difference to the lives of people.”
