Sacramental programme:
Children from St John’s and St Gabriel’s RC Primary schools will be receiving the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday 19 May 2011 evening at 7pm. The ceremony will take place in St John’s church, Dowling Street.
Building work:
It is an exciting time as the steel frame begins to go up for the new extension to the school. We look forward to the completion of the work in the autumn which will be an exciting time for all at St John’s RC.
Healthy school opportunity:
As a part of the school’s dedication to encourage children to lead a healthy lifestyle we have put together a package of activities for pupils in class 3. Parents/Guardians and siblings over the age of 5 years are welcome to join in. Activities to take place every Monday at 2.30 pm until 3.15pm between 16 May and 20 of June 2011. Please contact the school office for further details of the activities.
Big writing challenge:
Focus for the week:
Over the past week, the children have been learning about ‘similes’ such as ‘as happy as Larry’ and ‘as good as gold’.
Next week we will be looking at comparisons i.e. big, bigger, biggest/good, better, best.
Parents and Carers, can you encourage the children to work at these at home and set them a challenge to find as many as possible?
Also our lunchtime ‘handwriting’ club has been proving both popular and successful. A group of ten children have been enthusiastically learning to join their handwriting in a cursive style. Congratulations and well done to those involved.
Parking and traffic issues:
Parents and carers, please be aware of the parking restrictions in the area around school. Children’s safety is of course paramount so please make use of the school crossing patrol where appropriate and make sure children are well supervised at all times. Due to the on-going metro-link work, there are road closures in the immediate area of school. There is also a temporary one way system in the vicinity so please take care and have patience at all times. You will need it.
Family holidays:
Thank you for only taking family holidays during school holiday time. No family holidays will be authorised during term time. If your child is off school at any time due to illness then please contact the school office first thing to let us know.
