Fire safety officers deliver road safety message

Date published: 12 May 2011

Community fire safety officers from Rochdale have spent a day advising drivers on road safety, to mark the launch of the United Nations Day of Action.

The officers set up in Asda and provided shoppers with top tips to avoid collisions.

Community Fire Safety Officer, Mick Cryer said: “We engaged with drivers and offered advice on the many ways that road collisions can be avoided.

“Many of these collisions occur by drivers being distracted, for example by using mobile phones or turning round to deal with a young child in the rear seats, or even changing channel on the radio.”

1.3million people are killed worldwide each year in road traffic collisions, 95% of which are avoidable as they are put down to human error.
