Painters prepare stage for big show

Date published: 10 May 2011

Painters, helpers and handymen are working hard to get the stage ready for this year’s Beauty and Beast production at the Heywood Civic Centre.

The show, which takes to the stage tonight (10 May), is a production by the Heywood Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society.

Whilst the cast get on with their final rehearsals and the technical wizards get on with their side of things the set designers are also putting in the finishing touches.

One of the painters, Kathy Thomas, has provided Rochdale Online with a selection of images of the set.

Speaking to reporter Laura Wild, Ms Thomas, said: “I have been painting the set since Christmas and I love it!

“It isn't often you can paint on such a big scale, the boards are 12 foot high so I can let my imagination loose.”

Ms Thomas added: “I have helped paint the scenery for Hey Kids performances before and I have painted the set for Oliver and some parts for HONK last year.”

Speaking about her style, Ms Thomas said: “I have tried to keep the painting in a Disney style, bold, colourful and quite realistic looking and hopefully it will look really good with all the performers on stage.”

The show runs from the 10-14 May.
