More tickets issued at station

Cars with tickets on at the station
Further anger has erupted amongst the users of Castleton Train Station after Northern Rail issued a further nine parking tickets to cars parked on Station Approach yesterday.
Rochdale Online understands yesterday (Wednesday 4 May 2011) is the second time this week that tickets have been issued to cars not parked in marked bays.
Northern Rail’s clampdown of people not parking correctly led to 14 car parking tickets being issued on 19 April. People who received the tickets complained that the signs explaining the parking rules were not visible from where they had parked.
In a statement provided to Rochdale Online at the time, a Northern Rail spokesperson said: “We will review the current signage at Castleton to make sure this is adequate and passengers have the right to appeal against any ticket they feel has been issued unfairly.”
The signage has not been reviewed. No new signs at the top of the Road have been put in place.
Users of the station are once again questioning the signs, which can not been seen from the top of the road – the place where cars received the parking fines.
A commuter who has stopped parking at the station branded the move as “ridiculous.”
Another said: “Why don’t they just put [parking] bays at the top of the road?”
A Northern Rail spokesperson said: "The situation at Castleton station is being reviewed as a matter of urgency. Anyone who feels they have been issued a ticket unfairly has the right to appeal."
Northern Rail’s Client Manager will be at the STORM (Support the Oldham, Rochdale and Manchester Railway) AGM on Tuesday (10 May) at the Woolworths Club, Gipsy Lane, Castleton at 7.30pm.
The meeting is open and aggrieved passengers are encouraged to attend.
