Shoppers in Rochdale have been exploring healthy lifestyle options at a ‘love yourself’ event held in the Rochdale Exchange.
NHS health trainers offered free blood pressure testing as well as advice on diet and leading a healthy lifestyle over two days of action.
In total 104 people had full health checks with 37 people being referred to their GP’s with high blood pressure – these were people who were unaware that they had high blood pressure and can now receive treatment. 22 people were also referred to the Health Trainer service.
A spokesperson for the shopping centre said: “Shoppers enjoyed sampling the many free healthy snacks and smoothies that were on offer from retailers in the Rochdale Exchange. For the more energetic shopper, hula hoop ‘have a go‘ sessions were great fun, as were the demonstrations from the experts. Make up advice and mini make overs were very popular as was the free prize draw to win 6 months free membership at the luxurious Mercure Norton Grange Spa.”
The event was organised by Rochdale Exchange, the NHS trainers and the Rotary Clubs of Rochdale whose volunteers welcomed shoppers, gave out freebies and invited everyone to take advantage of everything that was on offer.
