Family fun at easter eggstravaganza

Date published: 24 April 2011

Families from across the borough enjoyed an Easter eggstravaganza at Queen’s Park, Heywood today (Sunday 24 April 2011) in aid of the Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home.

Activities on offer included an Easter egg trail, face painting, a raffle and even the chance to meet the Easter bunny!

The fundraising event, the first organised by the Moorland Home’s new sub-committee, attracted many visitors for a day of fun in the sun.

Jane Barker, Chairwoman of the Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home said the aim of the day was to “fundraise” and “raise awareness.”

The Home has turned to fundraising after their funding from Rochdale Council was slashed. Each year hundreds of children spend time at the home and it costs around £50,000 to run.

Ms Barker said: “We have never done anything like this before so we don’t know how much we will raise or what to expect. It is the first in a series of fundraising events.”

The fundraising sub-committee are now arranging a quiz night and a barbeque.

Ms Barker praised the team of organisers and people who aren’t on the committee but have also got involved. She said: “They have all done fantastic.”
