Two men were rescued from a flat fire last night (Monday 18 April 2011).
Fire crews from Rochdale and Littleborough were called to a flat on Redcross Street in Falinge at 11.54pm.
On arrival fire-fighters found a well developed fire in the kitchen of a second floor flat. Two men aged 24 and 42 were rescued by fire-fighters and were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by ambulance paramedics.
Fire-fighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire using a hose reel and a fan to extracted smoke from the property.
The fire started when a pan of food was left unattended on the cooker.
Cooking Safety Advice
- Never leave cooking unattended- even to answer the 'phone or the door - serious fires can start when your distracted, even for a few seconds.
- When cooking fried food, dry it before you put it in the hot oil. If the oil starts to smoke, turn off the heat and leave the pan to cool. Never fill the pan more than one-third full of oil. Never throw water over the pan.
