Councillors will support traders in loss of earnings claims
Date published: 13 April 2011
Councillors say they will support traders affected by the Metrolink works who are seeking compensation for loss of earnings.
The works, situated close to the Rochdale train station are taking place on Drake Street, Maclure Road, Station Road and the surrounding areas.
Councillor Shah Wazir, who defected from the Liberal Democrats to the Conservatives last week, raised concerns about the impact the work is having on traders and he urged the Council to support people making representations to Transport for Greater Manchester (previously GMPTE) about the loss of earnings.
Councillor Wazir said: “Businesses are being affected because of this work. Their livelihoods are being affected.”
Council Leader, Colin Lambert said he “fully supports” the traders in any claims they make.
Additional parking to help customers reach the shops on Drake Street has been provided.
A meeting for all traders will be held in May.
