Aspirational artwork on show

Date published: 01 April 2011

Rochdale’s Wheatsheaf Library is hosting a special artwork exhibition which has been created by young disabled people from across the borough.

The ‘Aspirations’ exhibition has been put together by a group of young people attending Barnardo’s Rochdale Project, working with Cartwheel Arts and the See Gallery to develop art and photographic pieces that reflect their own life goals.

The finished art products take the form of suit cases and bags, featuring their wishes and hopes for the future.

Each uses an explosion of colour and tactile materials to show ambitions and their journey.

Photographic images depict the young people in situations that they would like to be in as young adults.

Paul Young, Head of Customer and Communications at Rochdale Borough Council said the creativity of work produced by the young people was fantastic:

“Everyone should be really proud of what they have achieved. Sometimes showing how you feel rather than saying how you feel can have a greater impact.  Well done to everyone involved, I encourage everyone to come and have a look, the work on display is very imaginative and has been created with energy and enthusiasm.”

The ‘Aspirations’ exhibition is on display at the Wheatsheaf Library window until mid April.
