Women called upon to step up for the three peak challenge

Date published: 01 April 2011

Adventurous women are being called upon to sign up for a charity challenge and conquer Yorkshire’s famous peaks.

Children’s charity MedEquip4Kids needs 30 women to sign up to its Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and climb Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside on Saturday 11 June.

MedEquip4Kids provides paediatric medical equipment and improves facilities for hospitals and community-based health teams to ensure children and babies across the north of England get the best possible care. The charity is currently working with midwives for its latest project, Committed 2 Breastfeeding, raising money to provide equipment for breastfeeding clinics and support groups to encourage new mothers struggling to breastfeed.

Money raised from the female-only Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, called Breast Foot Forward, will be donated to MedEquip4Kids’ Committed 2 Breastfeeding programme.

Each participant needs to raise a minimum £175 in sponsorship along with a £25 registration fee.

MedEquip4Kids’ Rose Franks said: “MedEquip4Kids main aim is to help improve children’s health and no other single factor has as big an impact on long-term health as breastfeeding.

“This challenge is all about women raising money for women and their babies so we want mums, grandmothers, daughters, aunties and cousins to dig out the walking boots, strap on the rucksacks and tackle one of the most famous fitness challenges in the country.”
