Crime and grime tackled in Darnhill

Date published: 31 March 2011

Residents, the police, the fire service, the council and Guinness Northern Counties joined forced today (Thursday 31 March) to work with and support Darnhill residents to tackle crime and grime in the area.

The teams spoke to Darnhill residents about issues such as bin fires, fly-tipping, rubbish and anti-social behaviour – and getting their ideas for how this nuisance can be sorted for good.

They also showed people how to recycle more and waste less and reduce the risk of fires in the home.

The Darnhill Crime and Grime day of action comes after a recent spate of malicious fires of wheeled bins in the area – and officers want to empower local people by giving them information and contacts to do something about it.

Alan Bones, lead officer for the Darnhill day of action from Rochdale Borough Council, said: “It’s time for action and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”

Deborah Colligan, Housing Officer at Guinness Northern Counties said: "We are keen to listen to any ideas residents may have to help make the area safer, cleaner and greener."
