Oulder Hill Community School
We would like to say thank you to parents and carers of Year 13 students for attending parents’ evening last Monday. We thank you for your support in helping your children prepare for their forthcoming A level examinations. Could we also remind parents and carers of Year 8 and Year 10 students that parents’ evenings for your children will take place on 7 and 13 April respectively. Please ensure you check the appointments your child has made.
School closes for the Easter Holidays at 3.00pm on Thursday 14 April and reopens at the usual time on Tuesday 3 May.
If your child travels to and from school on the bus please note that from Sunday 3 April 2011 changes are being made to the concessionary fares scheme in Greater Manchester. From that date, the standard flat 80 pence bus fare that children currently pay will change to half the adult fare. For normal service bus fares or school bus services not subsidised by GMPTE children should ask their bus driver how much their fare will be, or find out from the bus company that runs that service.
Also, from Monday 16 May 2011 children aged 11 to 16 will have to show drivers an igo pass to confirm they are eligible to pay concessionary child fares on buses in Greater Manchester. Children of any age will need an igo pass to buy a Junior Bus Saver season ticket. Additional information can be found at www.gmpte.com/igo/resource.
Thank you so much to everyone who supported the various comic relief events that took place in school on Red Nose Day. The focal point of the day took place in the Theatre at lunchtime and involved students paying to pour baked beans over our Headteacher Mr Watson and Head of Year 7 Mrs Howe whilst they were sat in a bath. We would like to say a special thank you to all of the individuals and local companies who donated and supported the event. These are Bamford Wines and Convenience Store, First Bathrooms (for donating the bath), Capitol Claims, The Cooperative, Daily Diner, Haji’s Cash and Carry, Kidco Trading Ltd, Macaroon, Paper Shop, Sainsbury’s and Texaco. Well done to the 6th Form students who organized it and to everyone else who supported, including some of our parents for helping with the baking. This event, which raised a staggering £703.61, was really well attended and conducted in exactly the right spirit. It is times like these that remind us what fantastic students, parents and staff we have.
Congratulations to Daniel Harrel in Year 8, who was captain of the Rochdale team which won the Greater Manchester Junior Badminton League. He was also runner up in the singles and doubles competitions. Daniel is one of a number of talented badminton players who represent school at the moment. A number of our pupils have been asked to attend extra badminton coaching sessions on a Tuesday after school at Matthew Moss.
Finally, many of our students were entered in the Rochdale Youth Festival of Performing Arts, which finished last week. We are delighted to report that the students performed fantastically well - we had more entries in more categories/classes than any other high school in Rochdale. Our students have worked hard for many months and in some cases many years to achieve these high standards and to represent Oulder Hill School in such a positive way. We are very proud of their hard work, dedication and successes as we had several individuals and groups that came first in their categories.
