Redwood School
HMI Ofsted Inspection Visit – I had been notified that the school would take part in a one day HMI Ofsted subject inspection with the focus being the history curriculum across the key stages. Unfortunately the inspector has had to cancel the visit due to an emergency operation. The visit will be rescheduled for the summer term, we will then have an opportunity to highlight the quality of the topic work we carry out in the history curriculum in school.
Year 6 pupils / parents -It was very pleasing to see and meet so many parents and carers of current Y6 pupils at the Transition information session. We are sure that the session and the opportunity to discuss issues with key members of staff will have been useful as we prepare for your child starting at Redwood in September.
Key Stage 3 ‘Most Improved Student Award’ -Congratulations and well done to Bradley who was presented with his award by the President of Rochdale Rotary in a special assembly. Well done Bradley we are all so proud of the progress you have made.
Tesco Vouchers - We are collecting vouchers for sports equipment—may we ask you to please send your vouchers into school. Thank you.
Key stage 4 - At Skills Northwest the pupils who attended had an amazing time, they were able to talk to people from the army and other trained professionals. The pupils enjoyed firing the model guns and had a go on the climbing wall, only the fittest of the fittest managed to press the button at the top!!! The Bridging year completed their ICT functional skills test this week, then to wind down from the test they visited Falinge Park to enjoy the first bit of sunshine this year. The dental nurse has been in for a brief discussion on tooth care and provided all pupils with a free toothbrush. Mark and Alison would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped raise money for the school in Gambia they are visiting shortly. They have managed to buy another laptop with the money raised from Friday’s multi-coloured non-uniform day.
4A have been enjoying their visits out on the mini-bus looking round different places such as charity shops and areas of natural beauty. Lucky things! This week they will be looking at the horses and how they are cared for at the equestrian centre in Oldham.
Key Stage 3 News– The dental hygienist visited school this week and worked with most groups. A selection of students have again been horse riding. We are pleased to report that Mr Blease continues his 1:1 English sessions with students. Wheelchair facilitator training has been taking place. The wheelchair students were then asked if the facilitators had done a good job! Yr 7 red took part in a picnic whilst out on the bus. We had pupils attending a P2P sporting event in Manchester, the youth club took advantage of the nice weather and had a bike race in the sensory court.
Sixth form -This week Student of the Week is Hajira. Hajira takes part in all sessions with enthusiasm and is helpful, polite and always smiling. Most Improved Student this week is Samantha. Samantha has recently started on her Independent travel programme and is doing really well. Samantha is always smiling and willing to take part in all activities. She is working hard in her work experience placement and on her transition programme.
