Family raise money to send ‘Cinderella to Disneyland’

The family of a young woman battling a brain tumour are raising money to send her to Disneyland.

Claire Whitehead, 22, originally of Newhey, was diagnosed with the tumour in May last year.

Despite undergoing intensive chemotherapy, radiotherapy and brain surgery, Claire, has recently been diagnosed with two more tumours.

The former Hollingworth High School pupil is now undergoing more radiotherapy at the Preston Royal Hospital in the hope of slowing down the development of the new tumours.

Claire, who now lives in Blackpool, is a huge Disney fan and her family are hoping to raise enough money to send her on the holiday of a life time.

Claire’s cousins - Becky Taylor and Sarah and Emma Salisbury - have organised a series of fundraising events over the coming weeks to raise enough money to send her to Disneyland Paris.

The ladies are working under the slogan ‘Send Cinderella to Disneyland.’

Ms Taylor said: “She is the biggest Disney fan you could ever imagine.

“The local community are being so generous; it is unreal what people are doing.

“The barbers in Milnrow are holding a two day free haircut for a donation for Claire and a gentlemen has made a slide show with Claire’s song ‘smile’ and he will be selling that.”

Ms Taylor said she wanted to thank everyone for their support.

The ladies have organised a sponsored buggy push around Hollingworth Lake on Sunday 17 April at 1.00pm followed by a ‘Brief’ walk at 3.00pm where people can where knickers over their clothes.

On Saturday 30 April they are also hosting a charity auction and raffle evening at the Soccer Village in Milnrow. Tickets are priced at £5 and go on sale on Thursday.

Anybody who wants to find out more information or donate raffle prizes is asked to contact Ms Taylor on 07519193017.
