International food fun

Date published: 23 March 2011

Parents and children from Howard Street Sure Start Children’s Centre joined staff and residents at the Falinge Community Hub recently for an international food festival event called ‘Meet the neighbours.'

The event was a celebration of the diverse mix of cultures in the Falinge area.

There was an opportunity to taste different dishes from around the world and the children took part in art and craft activities and physical fun on the dance mats.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “The day was enjoyed by many families from the local area and local residents gave cooking demonstrations. Some of the dishes they prepared were Chana Chat from India, Biryani from Pakistan, Cottage Pie from the UK and Jolof rice with mutton pepper soup from Africa.

“Councillor Farooq Ahmed, British Curry Champion and owner of Veena’s restaurant, Heywood gave a demonstration of his skills and prepared a tasty Rogan Josh for every one to enjoy.”
