Dancers raise money for children's community team

Those with a passion for life and new experiences took part in a ‘Nia’ dance event recently and raised money for charity at the same time.

“Dance to Give” was launched by dance teacher Isabelle Walker and the class took place on Thursday 17 March at Richmond Hall.

The event raised £110 for Rochdale Children’s Community Team. This is a group of nurses and medical specialists, supporting children with life limiting long conditions.

‘Nia’ is a holistic fitness programme that combines the expressiveness of dance, the power of martial arts and the wisdom of Yoga to engage the body, mind, emotions and spirit helping you feel more joyful, expressive and alive

Originating in America in the mid 80’s, Nia was established as a more fulfilling alternative to high energy Jane Fonda style work out sessions. As with Yoga and Pilates, Nia has already gained a devout following throughout the U.S and Europe and looks set to take the UK by storm.

Ms Walker said: “I had just qualified as a PE teacher when I arrived in the UK. I’ve always loved to move and dance. Then teaching French took over for a few years until I experienced my first Nia dance class; it was like coming home to my body and rediscovering the joy of moving and dancing. I knew then that all I wanted to do was dance Nia, and that all I was meant to do was teach it.”
