Date published: 23 March 2011

Successful candidates: Tara Horrocks – RMBC, Debbie Ellidge – St Cuthbert’s RC, Jill McKenzie – Edge Hill University, Hazel Sarras – Hopwood Hall College, Wendy Hobson, RMBC.
Professionals across the borough are undertaking a higher education qualification in a unique course being run at Edge Hill University in partnership with Rochdale Education and Learning Trust (REAL Trust).
Thirty professionals involved in education and learning for 14-19 year olds have been attending a course ‘Leading on 14-19 reform.’ On completion they will have a PGCE qualification and can continue on to gain a full Master of Arts, which 11 have already chosen to do.
The course provides an opportunity to work with other colleagues involved in the 14-19 area, whilst gaining formal qualifications in an exciting and developing area of education. Those on the course have included teachers, college tutors, Connexions, education providers, support staff, local authority colleagues and work based learning providers.
This course is the only one in the country and covers participation, provision and progression.
Jodie McNally from Education Business Solutions said: “As the Curriculum Team Manager and Extended Work Experience Manager for Education Business Solutions, I was interested in the 14-19 MA as I believe that this area of education will continue to grow and attract innovative courses and pilots.
"As we move towards compulsory education/training until 18, the issues surrounding the subject will become more complex and need a greater understanding by those helping to create policy and procedure.”
