Advance notice that Year 8 Parents’ Evening will take place in school on Thursday 7 April and Year 10 Parents’ Evening on Wednesday 13 April. Both will run between 4.00pm and 7.00pm. Students are now in the process of making appointments with their teachers. We look forward to seeing parents and carers on these evenings.

Please also note that school closes for the Easter holidays at 3.00pm on Thursday 14 April. We reopen again for the Summer Term on Tuesday 3rd May.

Just after half term Mr McStocker, Mr Galway and Ms Tilney took 25 students from Years 8, 9 and 10 to Rome for a long weekend. In the words of one of the students, it was an ‘amazing’ experience - they visited the Coliseum, the Pantheon, the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele, the Galleria Nazione d'Arte Moderna, the Vatican (where we saw the Pope again), the Castel Sant'Angelo, Piazza Navona, Campo de' Fiori and of course, the Trevi Fountain. Pupils were keen to use the language and the locals responded well, impressed that our students have the opportunity to study Italian. Mr McStocker said that the behaviour of our students was impeccable, and their willingness to get involved in the language and the culture was a credit to them. Thank you very much to the staff who gave up their time for this – we know that the students really appreciate it and have certainly benefited from the experience.

Congratulations to 11 of our students who successfully completed a walk for their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award last weekend. Although this walk was accompanied by staff, the students had to put their navigation skills to good use in order to complete the 8 miles around Saddleworth. This will prepare them for camp and the 2 day walk later on. Mrs Corlett, who was one of the organisers of the walk, said that the attitude of the students was fantastic and that ‘they were a credit to the school’ for their effort and importantly, the way they supported each other throughout. Well done to Yasmin Akhtar, Kasim Ali, George Armistead, Lydia Barlow-Fell, Anthony Burleigh, Chloe Cunningham, Maria Jackson, Josh King, Michael Moore, Louis Taylor and Thomas Williams.

Congratulations to our highest attending forms for week commencing 7 March 2011. Forms 7H, 8K and 10H all achieved an outstanding 100 percent attendance – 9F and 11D were the highest attending forms in their respective years with almost 100 percent. Well done to these forms.
