Fire-fighters wash cars for charity

Date published: 19 March 2011

Fire-fighters from Rochdale fire station took part in a national car wash today (Saturday 19 March 2011) – to raise money for The Fire-fighters Charity.

The crews set up at Silk Street in Sudden because of the Metrolink works surrounding their station on Maclure Road.

Fire-fighter Steve Webb said: “It has gone fantastic; we have not stopped since we got here at 10.00am. The weather has made a great difference. We have had some very kind donations from £20 to a couple of pounds.

“It has been a tremendous success; I put that down to the location, the weather, the crews on duty and the volunteers.”

There was also a chance for people to have a chat with fire-fighters about keeping themselves and their homes safe from fire whilst their car is being given a spring clean.

Steve McGuirk, County Fire Officer and Chief Executive, said: "The National Car Wash Day is a great opportunity for us to raise money for a worthwhile cause which has benefited many fire service staff members and their families over the years.”

All proceeds go to the Fire Fighters Charity.

The Fire Fighters Charity is the official organisation which exists for fire fighters during their times of need and assists over 13,000 injured individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services.
