Concern over fly tipping

Date published: 19 March 2011

Concerns have been raised over fly tipping problems on moorland on Edenfield Road, Rochdale.

Piles of rubbish have been dumped on land near the Owd Betts public house.

Norden Councillor, Ann Metcalfe, said: "One of the things which I find really upsetting and annoying is the total lack of respect shown by such behaviour.

“Everyone should be responsible for disposing of their own rubbish in the correct way and not simply dumping it on someone else's doorstep.”

Councillor Metcalfe continued: "A large amount of our taxes goes towards keeping our borough clean and tidy, and our operatives do a really good job in doing that.  Fly-tipping such as this is a drain on our resources.

"These bags have been opened by vermin scavenging, and litter has been dragged and blown across the moorland.  A nearby resident personally cleared away several empty large cooking containers from nearby the site.

"I consider this type of behaviour to be totally unacceptable and will be pushing for greater powers of Enforcement."
