High flying students from Rochdale Sixth Form College enjoyed finding out more about university education at a Higher Education Convention in Manchester recently.
Students from the sixth form enjoyed speaking with representatives from the top universities in the UK.
David Greenwood, Assistant Principal at the College was delighted with the experience for students. “As an academic sixth form college the vast majority of our students are very keen on university education, despite recent rises in tuition fees. Our students enjoyed speaking with representatives from a wide range of universities, in particular our most able students who are targeting Oxbridge entry and applying to Russell Group universities.”
Kurt Torson, a former student at Oulder Hill Community School learnt a great Deal, he said: “I hope to be applying for the University of Cambridge later this year so to meet some of their admissions people was helpful and it has got me a thinking about my application.”
Dentistry applicant Haroon Ashiq, a student from Balderstone added: “I know that Dentistry is competitive and to talk with some of the university staff has only made me more focused.”
Principal Julian Appleyard said that this type of event builds upon the liaison work the College carried out in the year prior to opening.
He said: “Whilst we developed relationships with the Universities of Manchester, Liverpool, Lancaster and Oxbridge, this event gave our students opportunity to see the full range of higher education opportunities available to them.
“There is no doubt that many of our most able young people will be applying to some of the most selective universities.”
