Easter holiday clubs - After the success of the half term clubs, plans are currently in place for an Easter club for the period Monday 18 April – Thursday 21 April. Details will be sent out to parents/carers in the near future and places will be allocated on a first come first basis.

Redwood pupils play at Spotland - Some of our youngsters took part in a unique opportunity at the Rochdale v MK Dons League 1 match. In a match between pupils of both teams at half time, Declan L scored in front of the home supporters at Spotland to the applause and shouts of ‘Sign him on’ Well done to Declan, Fahad and Nathan for doing so well .

Year 6 pupils/parents - Hello again to those parents/carers and pupils in Year 6 from various schools who will be starting their secondary education in September with us at Redwood. The newsletters will give you an idea of all the fantastic activities which take place at Redwood. We look forward to seeing you in the next few months.

Pancakes galore - Well done to those pupils and staff in key stage 3 for organizing the annual ‘Redwood Pancake Race’ and in the process had a great deal of fun and via fundraising activities raised over £300. Fantastic achievement.

Key 103 at Redwood - Students in key stage 4 had the opportunity to learn about the many aspects of Key 103 this week with the visit of the Key 103 Magic Bus. Our students will have the opportunity this year to be part of the music, marketing and sales departments as they produce their own radio broadcasts. This will also involve a 2 day visit to the studios at Key 103.

Tesco Vouchers - We are collecting vouchers for sports equipment—may we ask you to please send your vouchers into school. Thank you.

The whole of Key stage 4 went pancake crazy. We must have made hundreds of them, each class made pancakes and enjoyed eating them all too. The Key 103 bus made a visit to School, the majority of Key Stage 4 students went on the bus and experienced the different jobs that they could be doing if selected for the Radio station crew. These jobs involve advertising, marketing, news reader and DJ-ing. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their time on the bus; some pupils have said they found it interesting meeting the crew from Key 103 and cannot wait to go to their studio next week. Well done to Tonya, Liam, Tommy D, Sandra, Fahad, Nathan, Declan, Joe T, Joshua, Fatima, Maria and Martyn for being the chosen students who will act as the management group of our radio station, they will go to the Key 103 studio and have two days training to be able to successfully put together the Redwood radio station. Great news for the Bridging year this week, they have successfully passed their Hazard Perception test as part of their driving course so well done everyone.

The Rathbones Vocational Education group have split into two groups and are in the process of building two go karts and are to compete in a race when completed. They are looking good at the moment so watch this space to see the finished products.

On the 1 April Key Stage 4 will be holding a coffee morning in the Bistro between 9.30am and 11.00pm, parents/carers and members of the school community are all welcome to attend. Students have been hard at work organising this event as part of their Personal and Social Development Accreditation.

There will be various stalls selling a wide range of produce ranging from Hand decorated mugs to top quality Soap. Handmade cards courtesy of the Enterprise group will be available for sale as well as a wide choice of cakes and biscuits. A chocolate tombola and Bric-a-Brack stall will allow visitors to grab a bargain. Please make a note in your diary as it would be great to see as many people as possible support this event.

Key Stage 3 - Summer Flowering Bulbs are ready to be planted as part of Science lessons. Year 8/9 Orange planted cress as part of our healthy eating lessons they will be sampled in next weeks lesson, the propagator used in the lessons was bought from the Morrisons ‘grow your own’ vouchers that the students collected. Reading group 8 visited Asda Café to participate in a lesson about choices and paying for drinks. Well done to Bradley for overcoming one of his targets by going out with his class on a trip to Manchester Museum.

Sixth form - first and second year students went to Manchester to make a short film with First Light Film Company.

The students had to write short film scripts and learn how to set up a video camera. Later on in the week the film crew came in to school and ran workshops showing students how to act, direct and film their own short movies.

The students had a fabulous time filming and can’t wait to see their final edited version that will be shown later on in the year at the Cultural Olympiad Premiere. Lewis, Aisha, Christopher L and Riaz have been very busy in their Mini Enterprise group.

The group have made buns, marmalade and have now planted bulbs ready for the small spring sale. Prices will range from 25p up to £4. Students who wish to make a purchase need to bring in some money.
