Passengers will be able to find out how the forthcoming changes to Greater Manchester’s concessionary fare scheme will affect them with a new interactive online guide.
Produced by Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) the online guide provides step-by-step advice and information on how the changes will affect passengers, when they are introduced across the public transport network from Sunday 3 April.
Susan Wildman, GMPTE’s Communications and Customer Service Director, said: “We have now published online information on changes to local concessionary fares, providing passengers with a step-by-step guide to what the changes are and how they may affect bus and tram fares. This will be updated regularly as more information becomes available.
“The changes will affect young people aged five to 16 and students who use a GMPTE pass to travel to and from college.
“Those disabled travellers who currently pay an 80p flat fare will pay the half-fare concession before 9.30am. Those with a Concession Plus pass will continue to travel for free at all times, as now.
“Disabled people travelling after 9.30am will continue to travel free on buses, trams and local trains.
“Passengers aged over 60 travelling before 9.30am will pay a full fare when the changes are made but will continue to benefit from free travel on buses, trams and local trains after 9.30am.
“We know people are concerned about the changes and we want to make the transition as easy as possible, which is why we have put the information online in a way which is easily accessible and simple to understand.
“If, for example, you are a student aged 16 or under and are unsure how your bus fare may change , simply go to the concessionary fares guide, available under the Updates tab on www.gmpte.com, and click on the section which relates to you.”
GMPTE will also distribute information leaflets in GMPTE TravelShops and put up posters at bus, train and tram stops as well as work with commercial bus operators to ensure passengers have access to the information and assistance they need prior to the changes coming into effect from Sunday 3 April.
