Drugs recovered from abandoned car

Date published: 14 March 2011

Police have recovered cannabis and cocaine from an abandoned car in Rochdale.

At about 2.10pm on Thursday 10 March 2011, an officer on foot patrol on Essex Street, Freehold, came across a Nissa Micra which had a smashed driver’s side window.

On checking the car, the officer found 130 snap bags of cannabis as well as a small quantity of what is believed to be cocaine.

The cannabis has a street value of around £4,000.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information about the car, or the contents, to come forward.

Sergeant Shoheb Chowdhury, of the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is an excellent result made possible by the diligence of the officer on foot patrol.

“It is a substantial seizure that send out the message that we will continue to target offenders whose criminal activity makes life a misery for our communities.

“If anyone has any information about anyone involved in drug or any other criminal activity I would encourage them to contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Team.”

Anyone with information about drugs in their community should call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
