PCSOs recognised at award ceremony

Two Police Community Support Officers from the Rochdale Division were recognised at the Chief Constable’s Excellence Awards last night (Friday 11 March 2011).

More than 240 officers and staff from Greater Manchester Police gathered to celebrate the work going on throughout the Force as the Chief Constable presented awards to the winners.

Two officers from the Rochdale Division were highly commended at the ceremony for dedication and outstanding work they do for the Force.

The first was PCSO Christine Curry, from the Middleton Neighbourhood Policing Team.

A spokesperson for GMP said: “Limitless local knowledge is what makes Rochdale Division’s PCSO Christine Curry stand out. She goes out of her way to liaise with all agencies in her area and uses the information she obtains from her tireless working to submit intelligence which has resulted in numerous arrests.

“Her determination also sees her work to present a human face to neighbourhood policing, providing activities for youths to divert them from antisocial behaviour.”

The second was PCSO Michael Curran, from the Heywood Neighbourhood Policing Team.

The spokesperson added: “‘Committed, enthusiastic and well-respected’ are just some of the words used to describe Rochdale Division’s PCSO Mike Curran, who is based in Heywood, and has build up a head of steam in tackling antisocial behaviour at the East Lancashire Railway Company.

“With his help, community safety funding of more than £30,000 has been gained to repair fencing along the railway line and PCSO Curran regular patrols the line to catch trespassers and tackle stone-throwers targeting rail carriages.”

Chief Constable Peter Fahy said “I am hugely proud to be the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police because of officers and staff like these who put their heart and soul into what they do and are there to support members of the public at the most difficult times of their lives.

”The officers and staff nominated for awards should be extremely proud of themselves for their continual efforts and first-class service they provide to not only members of the public, but also to their colleagues.  They are all winners and I congratulate them on their achievements.”

The Chief Constable’s Excellence Awards are sponsored by local and national organisations, celebrate excellence, reward innovation, and recognise individual contributions to public service.
