The crocuses are proving a real talking point
Spring has definitely “sprung” at a Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) sheltered scheme in Littleborough, where thousands of crocuses are proving a real talking point.
A delighted, Jean Ashworth, Chairwoman of the Saxon House and West View Tenants and Residents’ Association, said: “People are stopping as they walk past, and all our residents are thrilled with them.”
The bulbs come courtesy of a successful application residents put in for an RBH “Dig it” grant to help improve their immediate environment.
The £500 from RBH was used by Green Team staff to plant more than 7000 crocuses in the lawns around the building.
The Green Team is a partnership between RBH and Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, supported by the Government’s Future Jobs Fund. Green Team members were also joined on the day by six staff from the Department of Work and Pensions as part of their Community 5000 project.
Environmental Improvements Co-ordinator, Paul Dockerty said: “The Green Team partnership aims to galvanise Rochdale communities by improving RBH estates.”
