New neighbourhood inspector for Rochdale North

Date published: 09 March 2011

Inspector Umer Khan is the new neighbourhood inspector for the Rochdale North area.

He replaces Inspector Steve Clarke who has taken over the same role at Heywood.

Inspector Khan joined Greater Manchester Police in 1995 and began his career as a constable in Rochdale. He went on to work on various teams such as CID, the Fraud Unit and HM Customs & Excise where he gained valuable experience and knowledge.

In 2003 he was promoted to sergeant in Oldham where he worked extensively with communities and partner agencies to address local issues.

In 2009 he was promoted to inspector and returned to Rochdale where he spent a year dealing with serious and critical incidents as they occurred.

Inspector Khan is also a community volunteer and runs the junior cricket section at his local cricket club. With his heart very much in the community, he has now taken on the role of neighbourhood inspector.

He said: ‘’I understand the anger and anxiety that people feel when they become victims of crime and disorder, and I will do everything in my power to reduce crime and bring those responsible to justice. My officers and I will work hard to address the issues that have a negative impact on communities, and I look forward to the challenges ahead.’’
